Do you have what is commonly referred to as SOLID COLOR LATEX STAIN for decks? I am trying to match a McCloskey stain that is on my back deck.
Shannon G , July 12, 2011
...
No. Defy stains are semi-transparent.

I have a new cedar deck. Approximately 460 sq feet plus rails. I would like to maintain the natural color for as long as possible. I was thinking the extreme stain with cedar tint. Would this be my best option? Would 5 gallons be enough. Would I need 2 coats on the horizontal areas?

I just purchased the Defy epoxy stain. However sampled it on the deck and can not stand the color. I love the idea of using this product, but not the color. Can I tint this stain. I have five gallons.

It is not possible to add tint to the stain. You can try mixing with a different color of Defy though.

Use of Defy stain over previously stained wood
My deck has been stained with Cabot oil-based stain. It hasn't worked well at all. With thorough cleaning, can I apply Defy to the deck now?

re: Use of Defy stain over previously stained wood
You should remove the Cabot stain, not apply the Defy on top of it. This should work to remove the Cabot as long as the Cabot is a semi-transparent:

Defy Hardwood stain sample
Is it possible to get color samples in the Defy Hardwood Stain? i see that color samples are available but i don't see there is any place to specify which type of Defy stain.

Also, what size are the samples?
Dena , April 25, 2012
re: Defy Hardwood stain sample
The samples colors are all the same. There is not difference in color between the the three different stains. Each sample is roughly 2oz.

Thanks

I live in southwest Arizona and have horizontal smooth pine poles and vertical rough hewn planks (above windows) on my southwest style house. The poles have been sanded, but the rough hewn appears to have stain and possibly varnish. Does the Defy stripper work well on rough hewn planks? Regarding staining, would the Epoxy work well in this condition(prefer the redwood color) or should I stick with the Defy extreme (I know it does not come in the redwood color, my color preference). Thanks
C. Eroh , April 30, 2012
re: have horizontal smooth pine poles
A Stain Strippers effectiveness if not based on the wood type but rather on what type of finish you are trying to remove. No wood deck stain strippers will remove shiny varnish type coatings effectively. The Defy Epoxy is an excellent choice and will work very well on a vertical pole as long as the previous coating has been removed.

Cedar Deck and Fence
Hi - I'm installing a 450 sq ft cedar deck and a 60 ft cedar privacy fence 6ft 6in tall (5ft of dog ear boards, 18in cedar lattice). I want to retain the natural color of the cedar as close as possible. Do you recommend the Defy Extreme Clear stain? I just purchased three different samples to test the color on our cedar boards for which we like best (clear, cedar tone, redwood)... Can you recommend a quantity that we will need for full coverage of our deck and fence? Thanks!!!
pdrewm , May 06, 2012
re: Cedar Deck and Fence
You should have a tint in your stain if you want it to last longer then a year. The clear will need to be redone annually. You would probably need three 5 gallon pails to cover the deck and both sides of the fence.

Color change for older deck
My deck was previously stained with Defy epoxy Cedar tone stain. Can I change the color to light walnut if the wood is not stripped completely clean, or would it be better to stick with Cedar tone?

Thanks.

re: Color change for older deck
You can change to the Light Walnut Color if you want to go a little darker.

Thanks

I am building cedar fence, using 6" smooth, premium cedar pickets. The rails are 2x6 doug fir.
What is the recommended Defy product to use on this fence?
Howard Parker , May 11, 2012
re: I am building cedar fence
I would use the Defy Extreme Stain for your fence. It has excellent UV protection for verticals.
